The demo offers 3 events to compete in. The eBay Motors Muscle Cup sees you taking the wheel of a Ford Mustang GT-R and the streets of San Francisco, the Advan International Trophy hands you a Nissan S15 Silvia and your playground is Yokohama Docks, and the Euro Touring Car Series provides some old-school tin-top thrills with a BMW 320si touring car and the sweeping curves and hairpins of Jarama.
GRID has almost the same gameplay as DIRT. You can probably say that GRID is the same thing as DIRT except it’s not off road and has different cars. However, compared to the other ToCA Race Driver games, GRID has the same type of handling. GRID is an arcade type of game, and I don’t think it is supposed to be a simulator. There are physics, but they’re not realistic.
The graphics are great but have some flaws. The edges of everything look blurred. The antialiasing seems flawed. It runs great at 4X MSAA, but anything above that and the menu goes at 1fps, making you ALT-F4 and restart the game in safe mode, and change back the settings. But at 4x AA, the edges look jagged yet blurry. Almost as if you’re using no AA at a very low resolution. But I was running it at my monitor’s native 1440×900. The cars look great though, and so does the track. And now that I think about it, DIRT had the same problem with looking blurry.
Overall i would say its a fun game to play, but I'm not sure how long the fun factor will stay before you get bored of it, the HIS 3870X2 was very disappointing not being able to run the game at 1920x1200, but both the 9800GTX and GX2 performed nicely. Not much improvement using 2 9800GX2's in sli over a single 9800GTX, but if you select Alternate frame rendering in the Nvidia control panel you can get the fps to as high as 100 fps but overall performance was not good, so I settled leaving it at default settings. G25 Racing wheel usage is not so good, i found it much easier to use the keyboard as i tend to overcorrect using the G25. Overall the game runs much smoother than Dirt even though it uses the same engine and the accident damage and replays are awesome to watch, i can see it being a fun multiplayer game to play at lan partys.
My conclusion is this is a fun game, the drift racing is my favorite with its smoother flowing physics and its realistic sounds. maxishines Verdict - 8.8/10 |
