World's first 2 billion transistor chip

We first heard of Intel's quad-core Tukwila back in 2006. Now, it's launching at the International Solid State Circuits Conference. Expected to arrive in the second half of the year, the 2GHz Itanium processor packs in more than 2 billion transistors. Unfortunately, it's headed straight to the raised-floor room, not your consumer-class desktop. The good news for IT types is that the proc doubles the performance of Intel's enterprise-class, 9100-series Montvale processors with just a 25% increase in power consumption. So, we looking at 4 billion transistors by 2010 Mr. Moore? Probably, Tukwila is still using 65-nm processes as opposed to Intel's new 45-nm technology.

Nvidia chipsets are history...

03 August 2008

THERE ARE A ton of 'rumors' floating around about Nvidia giving up the ghost on its ailing chipset division. Nvidia is desperately trying to deny it, but don't believe the spin, the division is deader than an Nvidia mobile GPU.

Just over a week ago, Nvidia's maximum leader, Jen-Hsun Huang, held a meeting with Taiwanese mobo partners. He directly asked them if there was a reason why Nvidia should stay in the chipset business. You could hear the crickets chirp.

In mainland China. No one came up with a reason, so the division was officially killed, and the teams will be rolled into GPU projects.

Nvidia PR is having the proverbial hissy-fit, but ignore it, they do that a lot. The INQUIRER has talked to people who were at the meeting, and they confirmed the reports, and are dead convnced that Nvidia chipsets are a thing of the past.

ATi 4870X2 soon....

09 July 2008

Last week AMD went official with its new lineup of RV770-based graphics cards. But besides the HD 4850 and HD 4870 models that have been expected by every AMD fan out there, some even thought that the manufacturer would release a dual-core version of its next-generation flagship model, the HD 4870. Unfortunately for them, that was not the case, but still the company is rumored to release such a card soon enough.

NVIDIA "GT200" is pretty much ready

14 may 2008

More than a few NVIDIA partners have been revealing information about the upcoming "GT200" chip from NVIDIA. The G8x architectures has been with us for an extremely long time, and with the G9x refresh, NVIDIA has had more time than

ever to complete the true next generation architecture, known as both "G100" and "GT200". Apparently, NVIDIA has been working hard because the story is that NVIDIA could present its next architecture any day now, if it wanted to, but instead it's going to keep riding the G92 wave until AMD

is ready to launch the R7x series.

Nvidia Upcoming GPUs Line-Up For Q2/Q3

 25 April 2008

For the high-end enthusiasts segment., Nvidia will launch GeForce 9900 GTX and 9900 GTS in July to replace the 9800 GX2 and GTX. There is a die shrink on G92 for GeForce 9800 GT cards. Nvidia has also cancelled plans to launch GeForce 9800 GTS because there are simply too many high end GPUs. We told you earlier, GeForce 9600 GSO will launch on May 13th which is just a rebrand of the 8800 GS. The rest of the mainstream and value GPUs like 9500 GT, 9500 GS, 9300 GE and 9300 GS will come in June-July timeframe.

9 April 2008 -

Some AIC partners have gone aggressive and unveiled their 9800GTX OC editions based on the reference designs while the majority still remains with the default clocked reference 9800GTX card. EVGA has their SC, KO and SSC editions, BFG with their OC, OC2 & OCX, ASUS with EN9800GTX TOP, ZOTAC with 9800GTX AMP Edition. The highest clocked is EVGA SSC at 770MHz, followed by BFG OCX and ASUS TOP at 755MHz, and ZOTAC at 750MHz. Nvidia GeForce 9M Series Line-Up Unveiled

7 April 2008 -

We have revealed earlier about Nvidia's upcoming line-up for mobile graphics and now we check out how their competitor, AMD/ATI line-up for their mobile graphics. AMD plans to have dual graphics mobile solutions for their top end line; the Mobility Radeon HD 3870 X2 and 3850 X2. It seems Nvidia's top solution is a single GeForce 9800M GTX here. However, notebook maker Dell has offered dual graphics solution before with the dual GeForce 8800M GTX (G92) card equipped with 1GB memories so we wouldn't be surprised if there is a similar solution for the GeForce 9800M series offered by notebook makers themselves.

NVIDIA GT200 : GeForce 9900 GTX & 9900 GT In Q3

31 March 2008 -

No it is not some April Fool jokes. VR-Zone has learned that there will be two high end parts from Nvidia to replace the current GeForce 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX in Q3. These two parts are GeForce 9900 GTX and GeForce 9900 GT based on the new GT200 architecture. GeForce 9800 GX2 and GTX will have a short lifespan since they will be replaced in a couple of months time. Nvidia has positioned GeForce 9900 GTX to replace 9800 GX2 and this gave a clue that a single GT200 card will actually outperform a dual G92 card. Likewise for GeForce 9900 GT, outperforming and replacing 9800 GTX. CJ revealed to us that Nvidia will have a hard time fitting GT200 onto the PCB since the GPU is gonna be large and very power hungry so we can probably assume it is still 65nm based. The PCB for GT200 will be P651.

AMD & Nvidia New Graphics Cards Line-Up For Q2

28 March 2008 -

Here's how the products stack up for Q2 between AMD and Nvidia. In April, we will see the introduction of HD 3850 X2, HD 3830, HD 3650 OC from AMD as well as GeForce 9800 GTX. HD 3830 is actually HD 3690 but the latter is meant for China market only while HD 3830 will be available worldwide. As for the rest of the GeForce 9800, 9600, 9500 and 9300 series, they are slated for June introduction. We have not include the RV770 series yet as we are in the midst of collecting more information on this new architecture but they are on target to appear in late May.
